An Enriching Internship Experience at Navitas

My name is Allie Maahs. I am a senior studying economics and business at the University of Virginia and was thrilled to accept a 2024 summer internship with Navitas Business Consulting. This opportunity allowed me to explore a technical field beyond my business-oriented academic background. My goal was to deepen my understanding of the software development process, preparing myself for the evolving future of tech and artificial intelligence in business. As I conclude my time at Navitas, I am excited to share my enriching experience as a Business Analyst intern on the Department of State program under the guidance of an amazing management team.

Over the past 10 weeks (about 2 and a half months), I took on various responsibilities that expanded my knowledge of software development. Initially, I recorded meeting minutes and produced executive summaries, which immersed me in business language and processes, facilitating close engagement with both the team and key stakeholders. I also collaborated with experienced business analysts on user story production that I found valuable. This involved gathering business requirements, formulating iterative development plans, and communicating technically with developers to deliver tangible value to the customer. Additionally, I consolidated managerial metrics into comprehensive reports to analyze team productivity and program progress, emphasizing the importance of measurable metrics in gauging program health.

One of the most notable aspects of this internship was the supportive and inclusive company culture at Navitas. From day one, I felt welcomed and valued by my colleagues. Their passion inspired me to embrace every challenge as an opportunity for growth. I am deeply grateful to the entire Navitas team for providing such a rewarding and educational experience.
