A Successful AWS Summit for Navitas in Washington DC

The Navitas team had a successful 2024 AWS Summit in Washington, DC last month. More than 14,500 people attended the summit. Navitas was 1 of 129 AWS Partners who sponsored the summit and hosted close to 300 conversations at its kiosk. More than 60 sessions took place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center highlighting the latest innovative solutions. Generative AI (artificial intelligence) was the star of the show at AWS Summit in Washington, DC on June 26th and 27th, 2024. But there were plenty of other important announcements and discussions as well.

Keynote Overview

Dave Levy, vice president of Worldwide Public Sector at Amazon Web Services (AWS), led the keynote. He shared a video featuring four public sector customers using generative AI in innovative ways.

Announcements:

  1. New AI Initiative for Public Sector Organizations
    • AWS announced a $50 million, two-year initiative to help public sector organizations speed up their AI projects.
    • This includes $50 million in AWS credits, training, and technical support.
    • The initiative is open to new and existing AWS public sector customers and partners worldwide.
  2. Advancing Pediatric Healthcare and Research
    • The AWS IMAGINE Grant: Children’s Health Innovation Award will provide $7 million in grants for projects using cloud technology to improve children's health.
    • AWS also committed $3 million to three nonprofits focused on pediatric health: Children’s National Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Children’s Brain Tumor Network.
  3. Landmine and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Removal
    • AWS is providing a $4 million support package to HALO Trust, a landmine clearing organization.
    • This funding will help HALO use AI and machine learning to identify and remove landmines more efficiently.
  4. AI Models for the Intelligence Community
    • AWS and Anthropic are making AI models available to the U.S (United States). Intelligence Community through the AWS Marketplace.
    • This will help government customers use AI to solve major challenges.
  5. Sustainable Cloud Computing
    • A new study by Accenture found that AWS's infrastructure is up to 4.1 times more efficient than traditional data centers and can reduce carbon footprints by up to 99%.

    • Lakshmi Raman, Director of AI Innovation at the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), discussed how the CIA is using AI and the importance of workforce development in keeping up with technological advancements.
  2. Army’s AI Strategy
    • Young Bang, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology for the U.S. Army, talked about the Army's AI strategy and its benefits for defense.
  3. Precision Medicine
    • Dr. Adam Resnick from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia shared how AWS’s generative AI capabilities are advancing pediatric health research.
